What are your thoughts on New Year’s Resolutions?

Me, I’m a sucker for resolutions and goals. I love making long lists of ways to improve myself and promptly ignoring them. Most years I set way too many goals and forget what they are by February.

This year I’m doing something different. I’m having a word* for the year. And because I’m turning 50 in April, also because this word makes me smile every time I say it, my 2024 word is:

JUBILEE

Jubilee: a period or 50 years, a time of emancipation, restoration and celebration.

As part of my jubilee celebration I’ve set 50 goals that all have something to do with emancipation, restoration and celebration. (Like I said, I’m a sucker for self-improvement.)

I started the list a little before my 49th birthday last April and have been fine-tuning it ever since. The goals vary from super ambitious (write a new novel) to fun (learn to make macarons) to practical (clean out the attic), When I reach a goal I’ll record my progress here on the blog. And for even more updates on some of the long-term goals there will be updates on Instagram.

One of my easiest goals and first to accomplish was to buy new glasses and sun glasses. ✅
